Hair and nails are not living although the nail bed and hair follicle form which they are generated is a living cell.

Similarly the bony bit of teeth is not living, but the pulp in the core of a tooth is made of living cells.

Hair and nails are made up of dead skin cells and are therefore not living. The cells that make up hair and nails are dead before they cluster, so the hair and nails are not alive. This is why hair continues to grow for a few weeks after the organism that it grows on dies.

No, neither your nails nor hair are "living" things. Your hair is actually excretion, which is why your diet, any medications you're on, and if you smoke play a large part into how your hair looks.

But! Just because they're not "living" doesn't mean that they shouldn't be maintained :)

Your hair is living, because it grows from hair folicles in your scalp, but once it leaves your skin, the hair we touch, is dead cells.
