This is a bit difficult and I can not give an exact percentage but it is safe to say that it is very low. High-school marching band and its members have changed from 20 years ago and the stereo type you see on tv about losers being in band is unfounded. Some of the most popular kids are in the band now, from my school we had football, tennis, water polo, and volleyball players as section leaders or at least near 1st chair. The homecoming queen of my school was the leader of the French horns and piano player in the advanced jazz band. At least at my school nobody got made fun of for being in band and it was not because we were good or bad, we never placed in competitions one year and then got firsts and seconds two years later. We were never treated any different from the school. If anyone gets made fun of it would not be because they were in band, maybe it might be because they could not get in.
