God opposes the proud, He will give nothing to those without humility. Obedience without humility is worthless. The Catechism speaks of humility, especially in relation to prayer. Our Blessed Lord speaks of the humble as the "poor in spirit" for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, guess which kingdom that leaves for the proud? The original sin of Lucifer was pride, and it is the root of all sins. So, without humility, we cannot be saved, without humility, we cannot pray. The Catechism covers humility in paragraphs 2546, 2559, 2631, and in 2713 it speaks of contemplative prayer, which is a gift form God to those who are humble.
