LOL, breast milk is good for EVERYTHING believe me! I remember once a colleague of mine ask me for some breast milk for his 12 years old son. When I asked her why she wanted my breast milk for her son, she told me he have a serious "pink eye" infection. To my surprise I discovered that breast milk is great to cure pink eye's infection. A day after she put him my breast milk, his eye did completely heal. There are some studies that are been going on right now. These studies try to prove how breast milk can be used in the treatment of HIV and other terminal diseases and health conditions. In resume, breast milk is excellent for many things and have many healthy uses. Side effects? NONE.

Why do women put breast milk in babies eyes?

No woman or mother should put breast milk in a baby's eyes! Myths and folklore often have NO basis in fact or medicine. Breast milk is meant only to be a nutrient. Any antibodies present in breast milk will only be of benefit if consumed as breast milk, processed through the child's blood stream, and delivered to the cells. Breast milk has NO benefits when applied topically e.g. applied to the skin, ears, or eyes.

How does breastfeeding work?

Breastfeeding works in 2 stages. The first stage is pre-birth. Around your second trimester you will begin to make colostrum (this is the first milk you will make and your baby will have). The hormone progesterone will keep the colostrum milk from leaking from your breast and your breast from becoming full. Once you give birth and the placenta is removed from your body the hormones progesterone and estrogen levels will drop. The drop of your progesterone level will start milk production and allow for a let down of milk. This stage the milk is controlled by your hormones. The second stage is where the breast controls the stimulation of milk. As you remove the milk from your breast whether it's removed by a nursing baby or by a pump the removal of milk through the breast is what controls the milk production. The emptier your breast the more milk you will make. When your breast become full of milk the FIL in your breast will slow production down, it's not until your breast are emptied and there are less FIL present that you will continue to make milk. I hope this answers the question lol.

Is it advisable to consume breast milk?

The beauty of the milk produced by mammals is that it is specifically tailored for the offspring of each species. That means that cow's milk is best for calves, goat's milk is best for goat kids, breast milk is best for babies, etc. So yes, breast milk is better than "normal" (cow's) milk. The packaging for breast milk is also much more appealing than any other source of milk.
