Peanut Butter is so high in protein it will break down almost anything not man-made (and even some things that are). Its great for chewing gum, blood stains, grass stains, almost anything, it works wonders on all of the sticky things pets get into. Ive never actually used it on caramel before, but I'm guessing it will work just fine. Just cover the chunk with a glob of peanut butter and rub it around, working it into the caramel until its all the same consistency as the peanut butter. Then just wash the peanut butter out with soapy water, maybe Johnson's baby shampoo in your hamsters case. As for the caramel that it ate, other than a sugar rush, I'm sure it will be fine. But a little milk to neutralize it might help.
