It just really depends on the user. Most users prefer buttons, as the velco has a hard time in the washer and dryer machines.

What is a duvet encasement?

A duvet encasement sounds like a fancy term for a duvet cover. A duvet is basically a down comforter encased in a cover which therefore replaces the top sheet. The duvet cover usually has a large opening on one of the seams, into which you stuff the comforter. It may have buttons or a zipper or may just be left open.

Is a bedding comforter and a duvet cover the same thing?

Yes. A duvet, though, needs a basic comforter to go inside it. It is basically the material on the outside of the comforter without the inside. It usually zips or buttons and opens up.

Explain fully why Maureen fluffs up her duvet in the winter to stay warm?

Air is a good isolator. She fluffs up her duvet to get a thicker layer of air in the duvet covering her body, making it harder for thermal energy to transport from her body into the colder air around her. A fluffy duvet is better as an isolator than a flat duvet.

How to Put on a Duvet Cover?

How to Put on A Duvet CoverPutting a duvet cover on a duvet properly seems like it might be a time-consuming and sometimes difficult task, primarily due to trying to balance the cover and duvet. Fortunately, when putting it on the proper way the task is simple and takes only a minute before the duvet looks beautiful and is properly protected by the cover. The first part of putting on the cover is laying out the duvet and then turning the duvet cover inside out. This makes it easier to get the cover onto the duvet. Once the cover is inside out, it is time to find and grab the inside corners of the cover. Always put the hands inside to make the process easier.Once the duvet cover is prepared and on the hands, pick up the top corners of the duvet. Since the duvet was already laid out flat, the top corners should be easy to locate. The last part of getting the cover onto the duvet is flipping the cover back onto the duvet so that the duvet falls into the middle. Shake the cover and duvet and it will fall until reaching the bottom. Close the cover according to the type of closure. Some might require buttoning, others will zip and some will have ties to close the cover.Once the cover is properly fastened, it is ready to place on the bed. The cover will not come off the duvet until it is time to clean and separate the two parts.

How do duvets close?

Duvet covers come with many different types of closures depending on the manufacturer. Most duvets close with buttons, ties, zippers, or snaps.

What are standard duvet cover sizes?

The answer is - there IS no standard! Duvets can come in quite a range of sizes so the duvet cover needs to fit the size of your particular duvet. The first step would be to measure your duvet itself. Some queen sized duvets are actually called full/queen or double/queen which means they are meant to fit both a double bed and a queen sized bed. In my experience, any duvet so labeled is usually a bit smaller than one labeled just queen. I clicked around to find some examples of the measurements of duvets and duvet covers. I looked at sites with directions for how to sew your own cover and at sites which showed ready made duvet covers from well-known stores and here are some examples I came across. You will see that there is a very large variation in sizes quoted so for certain it's buyer beware. Also bear in mind if you are purchasing a cover, that you may have to account for shrinkage so the size may be inflated to accommodate that. http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aa012699.htm (Sew your own duvet cover) says a queen duvet cover is 90" by 102" http:/blog.worldvillage.com/home/making_a_duvet_cover_queen_size.html (Making a Duvet Cover) mentions a variety of sizes for a duvet - 86" x 86", 90" x 90", 96" x 92" and gives instructions about how to add to the duvet measurements to get the appropriate finished size for a duvet cover. http:/www.sweetbedbugs.com/ducoqsi.html - queen duvet cover 94" by 99" http:/www.kohlscorporation.com/ecom/valueadded/ProductGuides/Bedding_Comforters.htm from 86" x 88" to 88" x 94" http://answers.sears.ca/answers/1367-en_ca/product/9611675S/questions.htm 88" x 90" http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p12329/index.cfm?pkey=call-duvet-covers-shams (found on product info tab) 92 x 88 HTH - if you are wanting info about sewing a duvet cover, I can provide you lots of sites with instructions for doing that.

Why should you fluff up a duvet to be warmer?

You should fluff a duvet occasionally to remove dust from its outer cover and to help re-distribute the feathers inside. That is why the better ones have quilting.

How do you use a duvet cover?

A duvet cover is used as an envelope to hold a duvet. To insert the duvet into the duvet cover, first spread the duvet cover flat over the bed. Open the bottom of the duvet cover. Find the top of the duvet and grab hold of the two top corners. The tricky part is sliding the duvet into the duvet cover. As best you can, while continuing to hold tight to the duvet corners, work the duvet up to the top of the duvet cover. Place one corner of the duvet into the corresponding corner of the duvet cover. Hold tightly onto that corner from the outside. Next, do the same at the other top corner. Hold tight to both corners and pull them up to the top of the bed. Make sure the middle top side of the duvet also lines up with the middle top side of the duvet cover. Now, as best you can, slide the duvet cover down over top of the duvet. Both the duvet cover and duvet will likely be bunched up, but keep gently working it down. It is a bit tricky. The goal is to get the bottom two corners of the duvet aligned into the bottom corners of the duvet cover. When the duvet and cover are mostly aligned, give the covered duvet a good shake to even out the contents. When you are happy with the duvet distribution, do up the bottom of the duvet cover. Now, snuggle up.

Can you use a duvet and a quilt?

Duvet is another word for comforter. A duvet cover is like a big, big pillowcase into which you insert your comforter (or duvet). Like a pillowcase, the duvet cover keeps the duvet clean longer.
