It is essentially better to pursue a Master's. It coincides with the old phrase, jack of all trades but master of none. Not to mention it shows pursuit of higher education.
Yes, most people seeking an MBA will have a BA already (or a BS). It is a graduate degree, where as BA is an undergraduate degree. An MBA is a Master's degree (of Business Administration). A BA is a Bachelor of Arts degree. A BS is Bachelor of Science.
You can't get a Master's in hairdressing. To get a Master's you must have a 4 year college education. To become a hairdresser only requires 6-9 months of training in a beauty school with a test at the end for a license. The two are not the same type of education. So, to get a Master's you must have a BA/BS and to fix hair a license.

A BA graduate in one field may have also qualified for the Master's degree in engineering via the normal procedure, or they may qualify to proceed into Master's study some other way. However, to have an ME one must earn an ME. You cannot gain one solely from BA study.
