Yes. The compressor would have to work extremely hard to cool your home if it got up to 90 degrees (or around there) before turning it on. By keeping your thermostat at a more regulater temp you will be working your compressor less, saving you electricity. You can also save on cooling by using ceiling fans and heavy drapes or blinds to keep the heat out of your home.
The question is a little vague. If you go to work each day say 9 to 5 and had the air conditioner running at 76 Degrees F to keep the house cool with nobody home then this would be an EXTREMLY INEFICIENT way to run any type of air conditioning.
