Most people hunt black bears using dogs and a rifle of 30 calibre or larger. Some use a 12 gage shotgun with 00 buckshot and/or slugs. (At one time in Michigan, slugs were illegal on one peninsula and 00 buckshot was illegal on the other peninsula.) The dogs chase the bear. The hunter can follow the sound and does not need to try to run as the bear runs all over the place using diversionary tactics. (If the bear ran in a straight line, he would escape.) The hunter catches and shoots the bear.Another way is to find a blueberry patch or a place filled with bushes where butterflies feed. Look for bear tracks and bear scat. If you see it, then a bear feeds there. Then and wait in a blind in a tree.
