It probably means that you would rather have lived as a strong, aggressive, brave person (like a lion) who died with the same personality, rather than live as a shy, quiet, modest person (like a lamb), never socializing with others, feeling unimportant, etc.
Lion family live in Africa because in the past thousand year when lion existed lions adapted to this habitat. It's their natural habitat because they can camouflage in with the rest. They live in Africa because it's a really hot and they are adapted to it.
