It is common behavior for them. But is it a lie if the narcissist really believes he's being truthful? Narcissists may firmly believe they are incapable of being wrong, having flaws, or behaving badly. Hence, they are incapable of admitting or acknowledging that they have injured another. Perversely, they would be lying if they admitted to doing something they honestly believe they did not do. (That doesn't mean, of course, that they are blameless, and it doesn't mean you weren't injured, but it does explain why they so easily deny the plain facts that are obvious to everyone else.) It is important for a victim of a narcissist's bad behavior not to seek vindication by reasoning or arguing with the person and trying to force him (or her) to apologize or admit to wrong-doing. It's a futile endeavor. Narcissists believe it is their God-given right to take whatever it is that they want. They may know they've done wrong but they believe they're entitled. So, they don't really think they've done anything wrong. Also, they think everyone else is just like them, just not as good, so, they will adamantly insist they've done nothing wrong, unless admitting it gains them something.
