If you don't wash it, sanitize it and keep a close eye on it, especially in those early days after you have it done then you run a risk of infection. And that is the last thing you want near your eye. A final consideration is, even under the best of circumstances, people make mistakes-- do you want to give someone the chance to make a mistake less than one inch from an eyeball you rely on to see? I'd think about that.
