If you feel that the psychologist has a good plan of treatment and that your feelings are being validated, then it is a good idea to follow through on the plan and to do as advised. Second guessing the advice and then not following through (ie taking the meds) makes the whole exercise worthless.

When a person of a culture not the same as that of the psychologist seeks treatment, and the psychologist does not fully understand that persons culture, there may be a lesser ability to assist that person, and the distinct possibility of doing additional damage does exist.
