Everyone has different skills, and will perceive different things as difficult. Nursing school requires good organization, a solid commitment to regular attendance, and the desire to study independently to expand your knowledge base. Students who miss class often, or who think that only the information the professor taught in class should be on the test will find nursing school extremely challenging. If you choose to go, you'll have to do a great deal of learning on your own. Also, your eagerness to try new procedures will be important.
I'm so glad I went. I hope you enjoy whatever field you pursue.
It comes down to "Will Base" and "Skill Base". If you have the will power, the drive you can do anything you put your mind up to ( well almost anything). Skill base is another topic all together and you may be weak but will need to take more classes to prepare you for the career. It took me 6 years to become a registered nurse. I did not have the skill since I only completed the 9th grade but my " Will" allowed me to succeed. I have been an R.N. for 10 years, got my degree at age 30. Everything worth having takes work but being a Registered Nurse is obtainable. Good luck! Pam
You will work long hours. You will have very little choice in what days you work, including weekends and holidays. Realistically, you will have no choice in how many patients you take care of, and there will be days when you will be asked to care of more patients than you are actually capable of taking care of. When this happens, you will prioritize which tasks are most likely to keep your patients from being killed, and you will do those first. Then, you will leave feeling like you did not do a very good job. You will work 12 hour shifts most likely, and chances are that atleast 20% of those days, you will not have time to get lunch, and you will leave completely and utterly exhausted. You will get payed less than, say, most other health care professionals.
Nursing is a difficult major, it takes up a majority of your time, and you'll most likely have tests at least once a month. However it can be done if you dedicate yourself and get extra help when you need it.
On top of homework you'll have clinical where you work with actual patients. The most stressful part is worrying about keeping them safe and worrying about whether your doing the right thing. It does get better though with time!
The nursing program is highly intensive especially within the professional phase of the program. There are many individuals today applying to schools of nursing. In comparison, few graduate. This is not to say you cannot do it. Still, you must have a passion for the field in order to be successful.
Nursing is not a difficult career but you have to be dedicated
