Not at all; just be sure to keep an eye on it as it crawls on your hand and keep it close to the cage. I have picked up the babies NO sooner than 2 weeks old to return them to the nest. I would not recommend picking up a hamster under 2 weeks old as it is not walking yet and the mother may reject it as it will smell different.
