Black pepper can be an irritant of the stomach lining, too much could be too much depending on how much that is. If you don't notice a problem with your stomach after eating it, you may not have this same reaction, but many people do. Studies have shown that black pepper can irritate the stomach tissue. Interestingly, studies have also proven that hot chile peppers do not. If you like a lot of black pepper, you might want to try a small sprinkle of red pepper powder instead.
