It is illegal for a salvage yard to sell a catalytic converter.
First thing is that it is illegal to remove the converter from any vehicle. Secondly the engine will not run properly without the converter in place.
Dirty fuel/air filter. Plugged/damaged catalytic converter.
Due to the high temperatures of the catalytic converter it's not reccomended that you do this yourself. The bolts are probably siezed and will break off if you try to take them out. A muffler shop has a torch to heat them up to come out and they have an air powered impact wrench gun to pull them out. Take it to a muffler shop.
You can either pull the trans or pull the engine. Your choice, But you must do 1 or the other to get to the converter.
Look in a pick and pull or a junkyard
Pull the transmission and change it. The torque converter is inside the bell housing on the front of the transmission. Only way to get it out is to pull the transmission.
You will have to remove the transmission and then pull the converter out of the trans.
If it has one, it would be after the catalytic converter and before your muffler....usually right in the middle of the exhaust line. If it is an aftermarket exhaust system, a lot of people pull the resonator so it is louder and has less restriction without one. Hope this helps!
No, you do not.
Check the Catalytic converter, they start to break apart and the pieces are pushed into the pipe (restricts flow thru the exhaust system). Pull the o2 sensor and see how it runs. If it changes then the cat is bad.
check your local junkyard. most junkyards will pull the item for you. This will save a lot of money.
