How do you wire a single throw double pole?

Follow the instructions. I assume you are trying to switch 2 circuits with one switch. I always do a continuity test with an electrical meter to find which terminals to use. Usually one circuit will be wired on the left and one on the right.

What is the difference between double pole and triple pole?

A single-pole switch is an on/off switch that switches a single wire such as the circuit to your overhead light. A double pole switch is also an on/off switch that switches two wires. You would use this to switch as 240 volt circuit (which requires two hot wires) or if you had two circuit you wanted to switch at the same time. I've used them when I had two large light circuits that required two breakers that I wanted to switch with one switch.

How do you add another porch light to an existing switch?

Piggyback off the box for the existing light. Run a wire from the existing junction box to a new junction box (which is placed wherever you want the new fixture). Then, in the existing box, connect the wire coming from the switch, the wire for the existing fixture, and the wire for the new fixture together using wire nuts. Wire up the new fixture, and presto, you have two fixtures on a switch where there was only one before.

How do you add a light switch to a ceiling fan that doesnt have a pull switch. i installed a light kit but theres no way to turn off the light. do i drill a hole and add a switch to existing wiring?

Some brand fans have a remote control kit that installs in the fan housing. Also if you have access you can run a separate switched voltage to the fan. In this case you would have to put a second switch in the same box that controls fan, unless it is a switch with speed control that came with fan. In this case you would have to install a new box (Old Work Switch Box from Home Depot or Lowes for example) and run voltage to the box, install a switch and run wire to fan and connect to light. One other possibility is to check the ceiling box and see if there is a spare red wire. If so you could use this to switch power to the light separately from the fan. Again it depends on the switch configuration and supply voltage feed.

How do you wire a new light with an on off switch using wires coming from another light?

If you have unswitched supply from a light you need to route the supply through the new switch to the new light. You want to switch the black wire and just connect the white wires together with a wirenut and connect the bare ground wires together by a separate wirenut.

What does a multiplexer look like?

Physically a multiplexer usually looks like a box of some sort. More important is what is inside. The inside of a multiplexer contains a switch or switches, a power supply, and the electronic circuits to manage the system. One link is to informative datasheets for a couple of multiplexer Integrated Circuits from which much can be learned about multiplexer characteristics. There are many, many more kinds of multiplexer ICs.

Can one single pole switch be used to activate two separate motors on separate circuits?

Basically, No. For them to be on separate circuits, they could not be switched on one pole. If you could, they would be on the same circuit. If you joined the wires from both circuits in this way, you would circumvent the purpose of the circuit breaker, violate code, and create a fire hazard. On the other hand, it could possibly be done using a couple relays but that is not a simple solution either. Also, depending on what exactly you are doing, a sub-panel for both circuits could be installed off the main breaker and basically create two "sub" circuits. you would have to make sure they are rated correctly. Please consult a Electrician with more detail about what you are trying to do before attempting anything. <<>> If you could substitute the single pole switch for a double pole switch this would solve your problem. The throw of the switch would cause your two circuits to become energized.

How do you install a dimmer to a light installed with W wire B wire and ground W running into the switch box if the switch box has power from B wire W wire and ground?

If you have one wire into your switch box for your light. this is called a switch leg, the dimmer should be wired across the black and white wire wires.

If Replacing light switch old one has ground new one does not do you have to use the ground wire?

The ground wire must remain connected to the box. The frame of the switch, and therefore also the screws, must remain connected to the box as well.

How do you change a switch that controls a light and a fan?

Is the fan and light in one unit? As in a ceiling fan? You must change the configuration inside the fan's electrical system. If you wish to change a circuit in a switch at the plate, you must (1) Turn power off of the circuit, (2) open the switch junction and (3) rewire the switch exactly the same as the old one.To split the two functions, you need to identify the two appliance circuits and add another switch in tandem with the old one. This involves a larger switch box and plate. This is best left to a professional, but if you feel you absolutely must do this yourself, there are instructions available on youtube in video.
