Every girl goes through puberty at her own pace. Although most girls get their periods between ages 10 and 16, some start a little earlier and others a little later. If a girl is on the large size for her age and has been developing other signs of puberty over the past year or so, such as breast development, she is probably on an appropriate though early end of the normal time line. Notify your health care provider if you notice breast buds or pubic hair developing before the age of 9 or do not notice any changes occurring by age 13.
