Is pregnancy normal if you've had an ultrasound at 3 wks and see no gestational sac?

That sounds perfectly normal. The gestational sac is all that is able to be picked up at this stage. The baby grows within it. By the fifth week, the location of the baby becomes obvious as does the fetal heart.

At three weeks you have likely just implanted (assuming ovulation and conception at two weeks) and there would be no sac visible. According to some websites, it can be seen as early as 4 weeks. Personally speaking, I had an early ultrasound at 4 weeks and no sac was visible. A gestational sac and yolk sac were visible at 5.5 weeks.

Under normal circumstances, yes.

The implantation of the blastocyst into the endometrium occurs at approximately 3 weeks and 2 days after conception. A typical ultrasound machine using present-day technology allows for visualization of the gestational sac as early as 4-6 weeks.

Keep in mind, this early 4 week figure is for trans-vaginal ultrasounds.

It usually takes until at least 5 weeks or more before the gestational sac is visible via trans-abdominal ultrasound (the kind where the probe is on your belly).

Sometimes, the gestational sac cannot be seen at 5 weeks. There are some factors that can make it difficult to see during the first couple weeks. Factors such as: having a large amount of abdominal fat, a retroverted uterus, uterine fibroids, any pelvic cyst or mass that displaces the uterus, or having a uterine structural anomaly (such as a uterine septum).
