Answer: From an Occultic perspective the spirit-world timeline is non-linear. What is a few months from a mundane perspective may be a minute or two in the Otherworld (aka Spirit World). In Occultism, the Spirit World is the main world and from this come all other worlds. This world is independent from our "material" world, but both worlds interact all the time, but are independent from each other. Definition: Spirit world - The term used by Spiritualists and others for the dwelling place for those who have died, or left their physical bodies, as well as a place for other spiritual energies and/or dieties. I wish I could answer this question from a Native American Spirituality perspective, but Native American "religions" are quite diverse. Many Native Americans believe in an ever-presence of spiritual forms, that they are always present. Many occultists and spiritualists believe that as well. Those that believe this theory, would presume that the energy form never left you, only that you weren't looking at it clearly. Of course, there are those that believe in an Afterlife. So a third theory, is that the spirit has moved on and passed into the After Life. If you assume this theory, and have lost contact with a ghost or other spirit, it is feasible that the spirit has transitioned from "limbo" into the After-life.
