We are not doctors on this this site, but I did some research and there are just too many variables such as: * It's common for young mothers to be stressed out over their new born and wondering if they are doing all the right things. Lack of sleep, possibly a colicky baby and not enough rest or eating well may cause anxiety which can cause shortness of breath. * Some women report having acid reflux after giving birth. This means that the acids in the stomach come up through the esophagus causing a bitter taste in the mouth. It can also cause shortness of breath or a feeling that you can't swallow properly. * Some women reported that they feared having heart problems, but all but one woman was NOT having any heart problems and there was nothing wrong with their heart. * Hormonal changes can increase anxiety (called postpartum blues) causing a tight feeling in the chest and breathlessness, crying for no apparent reason and depression.) * A few women reported having Bronchitis. This may occur if the expectant mother was coming down with Bronchitis at the time. It's very important that you see your doctor right away. It's probably nothing too serious that can't be helped along with your doctors care.
