Breaker boxes do not have fuses associated with them unless the main disconnect is independent from the breaker box. If that is the case both fuses have to be the same in the main disconnect that protects the breaker box.

How do you upgrade household wiring from 110 volt to 220 volt?

your house has 220 you must use a 2 pole breaker. your wiring will change ,not a do it your selfer call someone

Should 25 amps breaker be replaced by 20 amps?

For typical residential house wiring 12 AWG wire is required for a 20 Amp breaker. If you change out the breaker for a 25 A breaker you would have to rewire the circuit with 10 AWG. In that case you could up the breaker to 30 Amps. All outlets and switches should be rated at the same voltage and current as the breaker.

How can you tell what your home amp service is?

Look on the handle end of the main breaker. There should be a number there. That is the amperage of the main breaker. That is the size of your house service.

Will turning off the main breaker turn off all the power to the circuit breaker box?

No. Power to all the circuit breakers will be cut off except for the Main power breaker. The Main power breaker (which supplies power to all other breakers and will say 100, or whatever your max breaker box power is, on it )will have power going to it all the time, unless power is turned off outside the house.

If you have a 125 amp breaker box on the pole with a 125 amp breaker going to your house and you get a hot tub that needs a 60 amp GFI breaker would that overload the box?

It depends on what else you are running in the house. Add up your amperage to see if it is more than the 125amp rating. Which should be below 105 amps constant to keep from overheating the main breaker. If you are not running a big central ac system or a electric oven and water heater you should have no problem running the hot tub.

What is an service panel?

The place where the power drop from the electric company enters your house. The service panel is where the fuses or breaker switches are.

What safety devices does most modern house use instead of fuses?

Circuit breakers which are basically an automatic off switch if the current goes over the amps listed on the face of the breaker. The breaker will simply "trip" or turn off if you have a power surge that exceeds the amps. They do not burn out like fuses do, so you generally do not have to replace them if they are tripped. Simply fix the cause of the surge and flip the breaker back on.

Where are the fuses kept you think you have to change a fuse in your home but you dont see any fuses in the breaker box?

Fuses and circuit breakers are two different circuit-protection safety devices. A house will have either a fuse box populated with removable, screw-in fuses or a breaker box populated with breaker switches. An older house may have a fuse box, wherein are find several round, screw-in fuses. A fuse usually has a glass window in front that gives you a view of the fuse element inside. Normally, the metal element should look intact. If it appears broken or burned, or the glass is blackened, that fuse has blown, doing its job. Each fuse has an ampere rating number; only replace a fuse with one of the same rating. Previous residents may have left you spare fuses inside the fuse box or in a kitchen drawer. If none are around, they can be purchased at a hardware store. Take the old fuse to the store with you to find a match. (Do not touch or insert anything into the empty fuse socket; you could suffer a deadly shock.) Newer homes user breaker boxes. The switches inside perform the same function as fuses but are reusable. Breaker switches may look like simply a different kind of on/off switch (and they can be used that way), but they have a center off position they flip to when overloaded. To reset a breaker, first flip it to the off position and then back to on. You generally don't remove and replace a breaker switch. For both fuses and breakers, it is important to first determine what caused the overload that burnt out the fuse or flipped the breaker. If the problem was simply too many electric-powered items on at a time, turn some off and replace the fuse or reset the breaker. If you can find no apparent cause for an overload, there may be a dangerous short in your wiring or in a plugged-in device or appliance. In this case, replaced fuses and reset breakers will just blow again. You'll need to first discover and fix the source of the problem.

Why service fuse are located outside the house?

Every house has service boxes with fuses outside of the house. Traditionally there is electricity fuses outside, cable fuses and water lines that can be shut off from outside the house.

How would you change a fuse to a mini circuit breaker?

I imagine you are talking about an actual fuse box, as opposed to a breaker box. These are different. One has circular fuses, the other has breakers, which generally look like switches. If it is a fuse box, unscrew the circular fuse and replace it with a fuse of the same amperage. The amperage is noted somewhere on the top of the fuse facing you when you look at in the fuse box. It will either be 15A [A for Amps] or 20A if it is in a house. If it is a breaker, and it is just tripped, turn it all the way off, and switch it back on. If the breaker is actually bad, use should call an electrician.

If you blew a fuse in your house but the breaker does not show a blown fuse you still have no power to half your house what next?

If it is half the house, that implies the main breaker or the line coming in. Sometimes, double breakers will trip one of them and not the other. It looks like it is still on. Try flipping the breaker off and back on. If you feel comfortable doing it, open up the panel and check each breaker to see if current is getting through them. Just a two prong test light will tell you this. Start on the main, it may be that one of the lines coming in is dead. Looking at the question, you blew a fuse but the breaker does not show a blown fuse. You shouldn't have both in the same circuit. If you have screw in fuses there should be 2 large Buss fuses at the top of the panel. One of these could be blown. These have to be checked with a tester, there is no way to tell just by looking.

How can you tell if a home fuse is open?

Usually there will be lights or equipment in the house that will not operate. If all of the branch circuit breakers or fuses have not tripped or blown the only conclusion left is that the main breaker or fuse has tripped or blown.

Every time you vacuum you blow the breaker in your house can you change the breaker?

Either your breaker switch needs to be changed for a heavier one, the pool equipment needs to be put on an other circuit or better still one of its own.It is best to talk to an ellectrician about the delails involved.

If an electrician have a circuit that pulls a load of 10 amps what size breaker must that circuit be protected by?

If you are talking about a breaker in a house panel then a 15 amp breaker would be used. It is the smallest amperage breaker that you will find in a house panel.

How do you find fuse capacity in house lightning?

To find the circuit's capacity you have to look at the breaker or fuse that protects that circuit. On the handle of the breaker you will see a number. that number is the tripping capacity of that particular breaker. On a glass screw in fuse you will see a coloured disk with a number on it that is the capacity that the fuse can handle before opening the circuit. On cartridge fuses the voltage and amperage rating will be printed on the body of the fuse.

What dangers are associated with overloading plug sockets?

You can overload the circuit, causing a heavy load on the breaker. If the house wiring is old, it can build up heat, espeacially in an attic and create a "hot-spot" potentially causing a fire. Any microwave of 1,000 watts or larger needs to be on its own breaker. A curling iron or blowdryer can overload a circuit in your bathroom, and trip a breaker if it is being shared with other appliances on the same breaker. Always consult an electrician if your having troubles tripping breakers or blowing the older-style glass fuses in your house.

Shop vac trips house breaker?

If the Shop Vac is tripping the breaker to a house turn other electronics off while it is in use. The power in the house should be checked out by a electrician.
