The first and foremost, are you in fact a witch?
If you are not a witch, then no, under no circumstances is it alright to tell someone you are. Claiming to be something you are not is never a good idea.
If you are a witch, than it is alright to tell your friend if the reason was a good one.
If you told your friend to frighten or impress them, then no, it was not alright to tell them you are a witch.
If you are a witch from a Family Tradition that includes secrecy in their path, then no, it was not alright to tell anyone.
If you told your friend because they asked you, or because they are interested in looking into paganism as a possible future spiritual path then yes, it was alright, provided you are not breaking the rules of your tradition.
