It should be legal, unless the hawk was killed in some illegal manner. If you do take hawk feathers, do so legally.

It takes two thousand pounds of feathers to make one ton. Depending on the size of the birds from which the feathers are gathered from would determine how many feathers would make a ton.
Unfortunately, featherbeds can't take on additional feathers. However, a high thread count will prevent feathers from falling out.
