Many good brands of mobile have a cable that will attach the mobile to the computer to up/download information like pictures and sound. This same cable normally carries charging power to the phone when not being used for data transfer

It depends on the power source - too much current (Amps) can damage the battery and/or the phone. I usually charge mine from a USB port on my computer.
