With some stereos there is a remote faceplate capability. The stereo?æ will have to have the remote plug and cable extensions to mount the faceplate.
If it's a removable faceplate, try tightening the screws on the back of the face plate. If that doesn't do it and the face plate isn't motorized, check the contacts on both the head unit and faceplate to see if they are out of whack. If your faceplate is motorized, it's probably the ribbon cable and should be taken to a service center. If the faceplate isn't removable at all, your best bet is to just take it into a service center or buy a new head unit.
I believe the head is the part of the speedometer that is directly behind the faceplate of the gauge. It takes the input from the cable spinning at X rpm's (or sensor if electronic) and converts it mechanically into what your speedometer gauge indicates on the faceplate.
