I went so far as to install 98 on a system at home just to check this out. I was unable to find an option that would let you display the icon for network connectivity in the system tray. So I would have to say there is no way to do this. Solution: 1: Create restore point. 2: take registry backup. 3: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

4: Add the following registry entry to the Parameters subkey:

Name: DisableDHCPMediaSense

Data type: REG_DWORD (Boolean)

Value: 1 5: Restart the computer.
