I don't think ordering delivery is rude when the weather is bad. The thing to keep in mind is that most delivery drivers use their own car and the chance of getting into an accident when the roads are icy are a lot higher. You should tip double what you would normally tip (in my case I go from $5 to $10). Expect for the delivery to take a lot longer too. I was delivering pizzas during a huge snow storm one year and I was the only driver with an all wheel drive vehicle. I made so much money that season. Domino's doubles the mileage fee they give their drivers so between that and the increase in tips I made I walked with around $300 on a 10 hour shift which is way above an average shift. That being said I did nearly wreck my car a couple of times sliding on ice and I slipped and fell on another occasion. If any of those incidents would have been worse the $300 dollars would not have been worth it.
Personally, I don't think it's rude. The whole point of delivery is paying for the convenience to not have to go out yourself. I think it should really be up to the business to decide to cancel delivery services if they feel like their employees would be unsafe doing their jobs, which would be completely understandable. But the burden of guilt shouldn't be on the customer. That being said, if it's particularly miserable out, I could see slipping the driver a bigger tip, but I don't think it should be expected.
Yes the food may get wet and ruined. If you call them to bring it to you it is your own fault. But/ The weather outside is frightful, but you’re warm and cozy in your bed. And then hunger strikes, and it feels all too easy to just order up some Seamless straight to your apartment door. But sometimes there’s a little pang of guilt. Should I really make a delivery person trek through the rain or snow to deliver me a Pizza? To be honest, is it bad to order delivery in bad weather? If we don’t want to go outside, why should anyone else? At the same time, that’s how delivery people (also known as literal angels) make their money. But you can order delivery guilt-free if you follow these best practices. It basically boils down to being a considerate human. Even when you’re hungry. We know, that’s not as easy as it sounds. Here’s how don’t buy $30 worth of Indian Food and only tip $3. It’s rude and disrespectful in the best of times. Delivery fees don’t go to the driver. They’re for the owner to process the owner. We know, it stinks. So aim for 20 percent, but even more if the weather is especially harrowing. Your delivery person will appreciate it after risking their life on the icy or wet roads. Bottom line: if you can’t afford to tip well, you can’t afford to order food. Break out the Top Ramen.
To be honest its not bad for the person ordering but for the person delivering now thats different but its his job though but i would cuz i would had felt bad for them but if i did do that i would give them a big tip
Having been a delivery driver years ago...
I had good snow tires and a four-wheel-drive vehicle, with salt and shovel and wool blankets just in case. I didn't mind delivering in most weather, and since I was usually the only driver and got big tips, I made more money.
If you think drivers might be MADE to go out in dangerous conditions or lose their jobs, call. Drivers at most places are also the ones that answer the phones and they can tell you. I sometimes warned people of loooong delivery times that way, or that the weather would ease up in a bit and they should order then.
Well, i have feeling it would sometime be a bit too much for the delivery person it counts on how bad the weather is but i'm sure that it wouldn't be rude if it is something like raining, snowing, windy, they would understand.
It's not really rude but it is dangerous for the delivery person because something could happen to them when they are out delivering your food. So therefore my answer is no it's not rude but it is dangerous.
I think it depends on the kind of weather that is going on. If it's a light drizzle of rain or just a "baby" snowstorm, then it shouldn't be too bad. Just make sure there isn't a terrible storm, a bad blizzard, hurricanes, tornados, or bad road conditions before you order delivery food!
If I was younger and able to drive there, I wouldn't order delivery food. Those delivery driver don't make that much money and I don't think it's fair to send them out on a delivery in real bad weather, unless I can't get to the store etc. due to a diability.
Definitely not rude. There are a few perspectives to concider, but as long as you consider it, it's not rude.
A business owner of a delivery business rejoices when bad weather is in the forcast. These are the busiest and most profitable days for them. As long as the weather still allows for delivery, they will gladly accept your business. In severe storms or natural disasters, they might decline your business, but otherwise, they are ecstatic!
The delivery driver has a similar perspective of the business owner. In their case, however, they are putting their property and their lives at risk here. They do it by choice because, again, bad weather is one of the most profitable times for them. You do need to consider the effort and risk that they are taking on your behalf and reward them accordingly. This is the only place where you might come accross being rude. If you skimp on the tip, then you are being rude. If you tip them according to their effort and the service, then you're golden in my book and dare I say most delivery drivers.
General rule of thumb, tip 20% on your average good service experience. In this bad weather situation, push that up to 30-50% depending on the severity of the weather and the attitude of the delivery driver. I've even tiped 100% in some cases.
I dont know. We generally blame it on the weather, we blame everything on the weather.
