Hot tub and Spa tub covers are pretty safe. They are simply used to cover the top of the tub to keep out dirt and debris and bugs. They don't seem to be able to cause any harm.
Hot tub chemicals are for the most part perfectly safe for the human body. The main chemical used is a chlorine product. It is safer the be exposed to chlorinated water in a hot tub, than it is to dirty hot tub water that has not been properly cleaned. The heat from a hot tub can make nasty organisms grow very quickly. There are also natural hot tubs, please see the following link for more information www.ahhnatural.com

As winter approaches, I want to keep my hot tub safe by using hot tub covers. I have never before purchased one of these covers; even so, I know that choosing one from my favorite home improvement center's website is easier if I know what kind of material to consider. If I choose a thin plastic cover, it will likely tear and let in weather elements. My hot tub's interior is likely to be damaged in the winter weather. However, if I choose a sturdy vinyl cover, I know that my tub will be kept safe and unharmed this winter.

Not so much the hot tub more like the people in it, the PH levels are for 2 reasons 1 to stop bacteria growing in the hot tub (which is bad for the user not so much the tub) 2 to stop the liquid in the hot tub melting the occupant of the hot tub (melting might be a little strong but serious irritation and sickness can occur if your tub is not properly maintained) Side note: if the PH is way off it could adversely affect parts of the hot tub, but if it's that extreme you will be in for a nasty time if you get in it.
Although chlorine is a poisonous gas which can kill people, and chlorine was used for that purpose in WW I, it is virtually impossible that your hot tub will contain so much chlorine as to endanger your health. It's safe.
