Is it legal to have a sugar glider in Kentucky?

It is legal to have sugar gliders in KY but you can not transport them into the state without a permit. To obtain a permit you must have a Vet's office certify that the gliders have a clean bill of health. It is also illegal to release a sugar glider into the wild in KY. You are safe to get one as a pet just as long as you don't plan on releasing it into your backyard.

How do humans affect sugar gliders?

Sugar Gliders eat sap from acacias and eucalypts as well as insects, which means they are classed as omnivores.Yes. They can eat a wide variety of stuff including: fruits, vegetables, protein, and breads and cereals. Their diet should consist of 20% - 30% fruits (some sources say only 5%), 40% vegetables (they tend not to like bananas and citrus fruits can cause diarrhea, canned fruits have too much sugar, frozen vegetables are ok), 25% to 50% protein (such as monkey chow, tofu, cooked turkey or chicken, hardboiled eggs, baby chicks or mice, and insects), and 15% breads and cereals (not too sugary or high in fat). Gliders are high-energy creatures and need lots of carbohydrates which breads and cereals can provide. You can occasionally give them them small pieces of wheat bread, shredded wheat squares (the kind with the raisin in the middle) or other HEALTHY cereals. Try experimenting with new foods, and make sure to rotate favorites to keep gliders from losing interest.

Are sugar gliders safe pets?

Yes in some parts of north America it's OK to have sugar gliders. They're friendly, cute, and lovable creatures. Look in Google images there so cute! Some people will keep 2 and then they will have babies, also very cute. If your going to buy one, you should check out in Google about where it's from, and what it does or eats.

How long do sugar gliders live if healthy?

In their native Australian habitat, if they can stay safe from predators and survive possible habitat loss, sugar gliders have a life expectancy of 10-12 years. Due to predation and other factors, the average is 4-6 years. This is because they are subject to predation by foxes, feral cats, quolls and owls. However, many sugar gliders will safely live out the full term of their natural life. The potential lifespan for a sugar glider in captivity is 12-15 years. For the captive sugar glider, the most common causes of death seems to be household accidents. This includes things like drowning in the toilet, attacks by other pets, and so on. Another leading cause of death is poor diet, which causes many health problems. Many people that keep sugar gliders as pets, unfortunately, do not take the time to study their diet (which is very complex).Sugar gliders tend to live for around seven or eight years.

Is it safe to feed my sugar Glider Cheese?

If you want to feed your sugar glider with "human food", don't give him cheese and milk. Instead, feed him with apple, pear, banana, grapes, melon, kiwi, papaya, orange; also, little pieces of cooked lean meat, but has to be unseasoned.

Is sugar gliders and endangered?

Sugar gliders are not endangered. In their native habitat of Australia, they are quite common in the eastern states. Although small and delicate, they have not suffered as much from habitat loss as other native creatures, as their needs are not as specialised. The greatest threat comes from introduced species such as foxes and feral cats and dogs. Native predators include the quoll (not as common in many sugar glider habitats) and owls. Bushfires in the southern states are a threat to sugar gliders, as these destroy their habitat and food source. There are also many being kept as exotic pets overseas. In Australia, they protected creatures, and only permitted to be kept in sanctuaries with a permit.
