It is safe to repair and replace your own head gasket, but it is a very tricky operation and you may not have success unless you have experience with cars.
You need to remove the head cylinder and replace the gasket. You will need at least to get a good manual if you want to do it on your own.
I have a 1999 jeep 4.0 . I usually work on my own vehicles . When the head gasket went I purchased the gasket , some brake and carb cleaner . Remove the head , clean reinstall new head gasket . I used a belt sander to clean the surface of the old head . Total cost $96 and about 10 hours of time
i got a quate from my 98 deville you better sit down. 4,000 dollars. and most shops wont replace the head they just replace the motor. I'm doing my own, almost done. I'll never do it again i can tell ya that
Your oil is (most likely) not leaking into your exhaust but rather through the head gasket into the cylinder(s). You have to machine your head and replace the gasket. (I don't recommend trying this on your own if it's your first time) I'm assuming of course that you have BLUE smoke coming out of your tail pipe.... if not clarify...
NO NO, That would be a intake gasket leaking, not a head gasket. You also should check where the heater hose hooks up on the intake, it may be leaking.
It will cost about 1000 dollars to about 1500 dollars to repair a blown head gasket depending on the type of vehicle you own. This can also vary by location and damage done to the vehicle.
It is smart to know the cost of replacing car parts. A 1992 Honda Accord head gasket will cost between $20 and $130 for a person to make the change on their own.
The cost to change a head gasket depends on the brand of the part, store, and if the person is doing it on their own. It can cost from $70 to $150 depending on all variables.
Most likely a blown head gasket. Or if you own a GM it's probably the intake manifold gaskets. There is a class action law suit that has been settled , but getting any cash will be a chore. I have a 96 GMC and just changed them for the second time.
The Head Gasket is probably on its way out. Check the oil filler cap to see if its gone all creamy
I found an independant mechanic, who works out of his own building on a farm, who does this for about $375
i doubt it but any auto store should have karropak paper to make your own gasket. i just bought some to replace the gasket on my iac valve, just not sure how to do it yet.
