It sounds like a bad idea to me. Even ceramic coffee mugs are supposed to be thrown out for human use when they get those little black lines on the bottom interior. A crockpot with a chip in it does not sound safe to me. If the chip is only on the upper rim, then maybe. Otherwise, look for a new one!
