The BEST firearm for concealed carry is the firearm that YOU can carry comfortably, and use effectively. The .308 is a large rifle caliber, and generally not a concealable weapon. Many people will have difficulty concealing a very large firearm, such as a .45 or .40- although some people do. The .380, .38/.357, and 9mm seem to be popular calibers for concealed carry. Bear in mind that, when carrying a concealed weapon, there are factors such as overpenetration of the target to consider. While you may be allowed to carry a .41 or .44 Magnum, it is not necessarily recommended. Personally, I carry an XD45. It is a subsonic round, with substantial knockdown power, and a reduced risk of overpenetration (which is not to say that it couldn't happen). That works for me, but it may not be ideal for you. You should go to a range which rents handguns, and use that to help determine what feels right for you.
This is mainly personal preference. The 9mm rounds will result in a lighter, cheaper round to shoot, but offers significantly less stopping power then a .40 caliber bullet. If it was going to be your primary concealed carry firearm, I'd go with the .40 because of the extra stopping power. Once again though, this is all personal preference.
Yes, Home depot carries lawn mowers. It is a year round product and you can always buy them offline if the store does not carry the model you want. Check lowes too!
The pros and cons of a pistol. Con: modern pistols of good quality seldom jam, but they can. On some models there is no second strike capability. The more complex something is the more likely it will fail. Pro: higher amount of ammo (pistols today carry from 6 to 19 rounds depending on size, model, and caliber). Ease of reload. The flat sides make concealed Carrie more comfortable. Cons of revolver amount of ammo loaded (5 to 8 depending on size model and caliber.) Cylinder makes concealed carry uncomfortable for some. Pros ease of operation. If round does not fire just pull trigger again. This is just a start there are a lot more pros and cons on both sides of the spectrum.
If you are in a place like Portland or Oregon City that restricts loaded carry by people who do not have concealed handgun licenses, you may not have a loaded firearm in your vehicle. Furthermore, if it is a handgun, it must be carried openly or "not readily accessible."
