While you don't have to eat directly in the middle of working out, not eating at all to lose weight or get toned is not safe.
People need to eat and it gives you the necessary energy to actually muster up the strength for work outs. Not to mention your body will only hold onto any fat if it feels it is being starved, so that would defeat the point altogether.
