Space itself has no temperature at all. Only matter can have a temperature; the vacuum of space has no matter, therefore no temperature.

The matter that's IN space, on the other hand.... When exposed in the sunlight, the sunlight can heat things up quite a lot. In shadow, or far from the Sun, heat energy will radiate away into space and the object can get pretty darned cold.

Comments: This is quite a complicated situation.

Even "empty space" is permeated by the "Cosmic Background Radiation".

So, it's usually said that the lowest temperature in space is about 2.7 degrees above "Absolute Zero".

Also, there's a lot of gas and dust spread throughout interstellar space.

There is a large temperature range from just a few degrees kelvin up to thousands of degrees and more.

Generally speaking though, I agree that the stuff in space, away from nearby stars, is usually very cold.

See below for a "related link".

Click on this link and enter :

"temperature of space" in the "search box".

Then click on "What's the temperature of outer space?"

What numbers fill the spaces 150 SPACE 84 SPACE 42 SPACE 30 and if possible what is the formula?

"what is the wether like in space? always hot? manley cold? both?" I assume this was posted as a joke, because it was posted as an answer not a question, but always cold. In a way cold does't actually exist, it is just an absence of heat. If there is no gases, in space to be hot, then there is an absence heat, or cold.

Is space hot or cold?

In space, there is no atmosphere to trap heat. So, heat from the Sun can make certain areas in space hot, while other areas can be extremely cold, approaching near absolute zero. Overall, space is considered cold due to the lack of matter to conduct or hold heat.

Will astronaut feel hot in their spacesuits?

No the suits are regulated to protect them from the freezing cold of space.

Do hot water take up more space than cold water?

Yes until it turns to ice when it take sup more space than hot water.

Why is outer space cold?

because the sun faces the earth while the earth is being hot Outer space is neither hot nor cold. Temperature measures the energy of atomic particles. Sense there is no atomic particles in the vacuum of outer space there is no temperature.

What would happen to the space shuttle in deep space?

The Shuttles and their key systems were never designed for the extreme cold of interplanetary space; while it's cold in Earth orbit, it'd downright hot compared to coldness of space between the planets.

Do space heaters blow cold air out the back while blowing hot air out the front?

no

Is there radiation in space storms?

Well actually there is radiation. Because space is so cold that when the storm forms they both make radiation. Just like hot air and cold air making a tornado.

If space was white would it get cold or hot?

If space were to suddenly turn white, it wouldn't have any impact on its temperature. The temperature in space is in fact extremely cold because of the vacuum and lack of atmosphere to trap heat. The whiteness of space wouldn't affect this.

Is earth hot or cold?

Why does hot water float above cold?

In hot water the molecules vibrate faster than cold, resulting in the same number of molecules taking up a larger space. This means that hot water is less dense than cold water, and thus floats above the cold water.
