It may not be the answer you are looking for because I know when you are trying to get over your first love all you want to hear is that you will get over it. From my experience and from seeing my friends go through it as well, you will never truly forget your first love. You will love others in a different way. Maybe it won't seem like you ever love anyone quite as much as your first, but I think it is just because it was your first. It ended for a reason and you probably learned alot from it and the first love will always be in the back of your mind. You will be able to move on and when you are madly in love with someone else you will not think about your first as often and you will be thankful. But everytime you hit a down slope and you are not with anyone and/or you are unhappy in a relationship your first love will always come to mind and you will always think "what if" or "I wish". SO, do I think it ever really dies? No. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't leave it in your past and move on.

Love Never Dies
When an ex-husband says 'love never dies', it usually means he still loves you, and always will love you, even if you don't love him.
It would be correct to say "love never dies" however this is in fact wrong because it does die quite frequently.
