Purple is associated with suffering, Passion ( in the religious sense) and also royalty and imperial might ( the Flag of the Empress in Japan, not mortuary at all, is a Gold Chrysanthemum against a Purple Field- sunset indeed- it could also simulate the sun going down- a death in the family One is reminded of a song ( don't let the sun, go down on me).
