No it is not. The two programs will probably interfere with each other. For example norton's firewall might think some mcafee componets are malicious and block them. You know the old saying two is better than one. Well when it comes to to antimalware software this maxim does not apply. Having mcafee and norton actually make you more vulnerable. So chose the one that best meets your needs and get rid of the other one.
Have you checked Norton compatibility with McAfee? I will recommend installing 2 anti virus software only if they are compatible with each other. Since Norton eats up much of the system space, it is not wise to install incompatible security software such as McAfee without uninstalling Norton security suite as this may lead to system freeze, application crash or system crash issues. Try to enhance your PC protection by selecting some light weight antivirus software such as Immunet, ZoneAlarm, Hitman Pro etc which are compatible with Norton security software.

Start>My Computer>Local Disk>Program files>McAfee>McAfee Shared components>Shedder << delete this folder For those of you trying to install Norton but it keeps telling you to uninstall McAfee Shredder first, I came across the easiest answer that worked straight away for me. Go download this freeware registry cleaner: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=460. On the Uninstall Menu, remove McAfee Shredder and it takes care of it immediately.
Norton should be able to remove it from your pc.

To download an anti spam program, first browse to a trusted developer's web site. When you select the link given on that site, it will prompt you to save the program to your local drive. An easy place to find it later is to save it to your desktop. You'll be able to double-click on the program later to install the application.
I think mcafee is not completely uninstalled, on control panel click add or remove programes and make sure that mcafee components are uninstalled. in c:\program files\ manually delete the mcafee files if any remaining after that restart the system and start installing kaspersky antivirus... for any problems you can ask me at http://umamahesh88.blogspot.com/ UMA MAHESH
