Check your owners manual for fuel recommendations. Unless the engine has a high compression ratio, it will not benefit from higher octane fuel.

Does higher octane fuel produce more power than regular fuel?

No.

Is racing fuel or fuel better for your fourwheeler?

There's no benefit unless you need the Octane. If you have a lot of compression in your engine or is detonation prone, than you can curb it with more octane.

What is the recommened fuel octane for the 1977 Corvette 350 L-82 engine?

L-82 had more compression than L-48. Probably not wise to use less than 89 octane. minimum of 87 octane

Does 91 octane gas have more additives than 87 octane gas?

No it does not have any more additives. It has more octane and that is all. If your engine is designed to run on 87 octane then using 91 octane is a complete total waste of money. The higher octane fuel will provide no more power, fuel economy, or any other benefit at all. In fact your car may be harder to start with the higher octane fuel due to it's higher flash point. It is a total myth that higher octane fuel is better. It is only needed in a high compression engine to prevent pre-detonation and that is the only purpose it serves. Use exactly what is recommended by the manufacture and save your hard earned money.

What are the effects of octane rating?

Simple, If you engine requires 91 octane, and you put 87 in it, you will experience a degradation of engine performance, due to the lower octane having faster burn properties. If your engine requires 87 octane and you put high octane (90-91 octane) fuel into it, you will NOT see a performance boost, and may even see a slight decline in performance. What 99% of all people don't know is that High Octane fuel actually burns more slowly, than lower octane fuel. This property, allows higher compression prior to detonation, hence more performance at combustion.

What is the octane number?

The octane number is a measure of performance of a fuel. It is measured relative to pure isooctane which is given an arbitrary value of 100. It is possible for fuels to have an octane number higher than 100. The higher the octane number the more compression it takes for the fuel to detonate. Higher octane fuel is used usually in high performance vehicles where the engines have higher compression ratios. If the octane number of a fuel isn't high enough it can lead to engine knocking this is where the fuel detonates before the fuel is at its maximum compressive state in the engine, this can cause damage and lower performance.

What is high octane fuel?

Regular unleaded fuel is 87 octane. High octane fuel is any fuel higher than regular. 89 and 91 octane being the most common the consumer can buy. High octane fuel is not needed in most cars and is a waste of money if your car does not need it. It provides no benefit whatsoever in a vehicle designed to run on Regular. Octane is only a measure of how well the fuel prevents pre-detonation in a high compression engine.

What does an octane rating tell?

The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When fuel ignites from compression rather than the spark from the spark plug it causes knocking in the engine which can damage the engine. For this reason you should use the octane as recommended by the manufacture. Using a higher octane than is recommended will provide no benefit whatsoever and it s waste of money. But using a lower octane than is recommend may cause damage. On modern cars with sophisticated fuel management systems the ECU may adjust for a lower octane fuel than is required so you may be able to use a lower octane at the expense of power and fuel mileage. Ask your dealer if it is safe to use a lower octane fuel before doing so.

1989 Suzuki Vitara fuel type?

can run any type of fuel. no less than 91 octane unleaded and i think 86 octane leaded. also can run higher octane and a fuel mixture of 10% ethanol or 5% methanol.

What is 89 octane fuel?

it's a little better than 87 octane but not really high test gas, 91 and 93 octane is the high test.

What is the best gas to use to keep fuel injectors clean?

A higher octane fuel(94+). Shell has a lot of cleaning additives to their fuel, up to four times the industrial standard. All gasoline today has additives added that help keep injectors clean. There is no more cleaning additive in Shell 94 octane fuel than there is in Shell 87 octane fuel. Using a high octane fuel in a vehicle designed to run on 87 octane is a total waste of money and provides no benefit whatsoever. Once each year add a can of Seafoam, Techron, or any other high quality fuel system cleaner to a full tank of fuel and you will be fine.

87 and 91 gas?

Use exactly what your owner's manual lists. Using a higher octane than your engine was designed to burn, will provide no benefit whatsoever. No more power, no better mileage, and in fact can provide poor starting, and in some cases, harm the engine. Besides the fact you are paying more for high octane fuel you do not need. Using a lower than required octane can cause less power and pinging. This can eventually do damage to your engine. It is a myth that a higher octane fuel provides any benefit to an engine not designed to use the higher octane.
