"Gay" is a modern idea of sexual orientation. During the 17th century, people had different ideas and view of homosexuality. People who had homosexual relationships also might not have identified themselves the same way "gay people" do today. Therefore, to say that Jean Baptiste Lully was "gay" is incorrect. He did however have sexual relationships with men and women. The closest modern label that we could give him would be bisexual, although in reality we will never know for sure what his true orientation was.
There is historical documentation to suggest that Jean-Baptiste Lully had relationships with both men and women. However, it is important to note that sexual orientation and identity are complex and can be difficult to define using modern labels.
