Jecht is a character from Final Fantasy X, the estranged father of the main character Tidus. Lost and considered dead for 10 years, Jecht had actually ended up in the world of Spira, going on an adventure of his own with Braska, the father of playable character Yuna, as well as Braska's companion Auron who also joins the playable party later on. Though remembered as arrogant and uncaring in Tidus' flashbacks and comments, Jecht reveals through videos recorded on magical spheres, that he's always had Tidus' best interests at heart, even though he wasn't very good at showing it. He himself also matures a great deal over those 10 years, giving up alcohol after a drunken accident, and sacrificing his own life to give the world a temporary peace.

Why did tidus disappear?
During the storyline of Final Fantsay X, you learn that after the war between Zanarkand and Bevelle, Zanarkand is ultimately destroyed and all the summoners from Zanarkand wanted to preserve the city even if only in a dream. Therefore, Tidus is a dream of the fayth or of the undead summoners. Everyone from his city of Zanarkand including him, his dad, and his mom were preserved in a replicated dream of the Zanarkand where he is from. You also learn that his dad Jecht and him were touched by sin, making them real in the Spira of the future. After the blitzball tournament in Luca, Tidus finds Auron and Auron reveals to him that with Jecht together with Braska, they had defeated sin ten years prior and that Jecht is the new sin. Towards the end of the storyline the fayth of the Aeon Bahamut told Tidus that the fayth had been dreaming for so long that they were tired and upon asking Tidus if he and his dad Jecht would stop their dreaming, he also revealed that should sin and the fayth possessing sin (Yu Yevon) be defeated without the means of the final aeon that the fayth's dream of Zanarkand would no longer exist. After the defeat of Yu Yevon the fayth were allowed to stop summoning or dreaming therefore taking Tidus's, Jecht's and the existence of the dream Zanarkand away.
