Todmorden is in Calderdale Borough, based on Halifax, and hence part of West Yorkshire. Confusion could arise as it has an OL postcode (Oldham postcodes cover Oldham and parts of Tameside and Rochdale boroughs mainly) and hence a "Lancashire" address! Since 1996 you are not obliged to put a postal county on a letter, but the habit still continues with many. These places are NOT part of Lancashire administratively however. HX (Halifax) postcodes start once you reach Hebden Bridge on the road to Halifax from Tod. Interstingly Todmorden is part of the Roman Catholic diocese of Salford and RC children do cross the border into Lancashire to go to secondary school in Burnley, which IS in the County of Lancashire. The OLD Lancashire/ Yorkshire border does run through Tod, but today it is in the area where West Yorkshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester meet.

Paul Hepworth has written: 'The Calderdale Inheritance Project'
Calderdale is not a single town but rather a metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. It encompasses several towns and villages, with Halifax being its largest and most prominent town. The borough is known for its rich industrial heritage and scenic landscapes.
