To people who have it? Yes, absolutely, depending on the type they have. I have it, and have problems, but not everyone has the same symptoms. I suggest you look up the specific types and symptoms to see for yourself if you think the symptoms can cause problems.

Can lupus lie dormant while still showing some symptoms?

If a person is showing symptoms, then the lupus is not dormant.

Are you born with lupus?

Researchers are still discovering genetic issues in lupus. You may be born with the genetic make up that predisposes you to develop lupus later in life. But lupus may or may not develop. In cases of genetically identical twins, both develop lupus in only about 30% of the cases. A baby born to a mother who has lupus might have neonatal lupus which usually clears on its own in six months or so. In some cases the infant might have congenital heart block, but not necessarily lupus.

Does lupus cause problem in the relationship?

Presumably no. Both partners need to be understanding of what it means to have lupus and they need to be well-versed in managing the condition. In a mature relationship where both partners support each other, lupus would be a 'bump in the road' but would not derail the strong relationship.

Can you test negative for lupus but still have it?

There is no definitive test for lupus. It is possible that some standard tests may come back negative, but the patient does indeed have lupus. A diagnosis of lupus is based on history, symptoms, and a variety of lab and imaging tests. A rheumatologist is the type of doctor who has the specialized training to make the diagnosis.

What happens when lupus is inside your body?

Lupus is an autoimmune disease. The immune system is not able to differentiate between pathogens and heathy parts of the self. Lupus is not contagious. It is not caused by a germ or virus. It develops. The causes are still being researched. Your immune system can attack your joints, muscles, skin, and any organ. Lupus affects each person differently. Lupus is treated with drugs that weaken the immune system.

Is migraine headaches a sign of lupus?

Migraine and lupus are both primary conditions. This means that each is a separate disorder. That said, Lupus is an autoimmune/inflammatory condition which can often serve as a trigger for Migraine in those individuals with the capacity for attacks. Moreover, the medicines taken by lupus patients are often potent Migraine triggers, which can make it appear that the lupus is the trigger, when the reality is that it may be the medicine the patient is taking for their disease that is the problem. Despite the fact that Migraine remains on the symptoms list for lupus in many places, recent research revealed in 2012, showed once again that Migraine is not a symptom of lupus.

What is infantile lupus?

Neonatal lupus can occur when a baby is born to a mother with lupus. In some cases, the infant will only have a rash for several months and it will clear on its own. In other more rare cases, the infant will have a congenital heart block, meaning the baby is born with a problem maintaining a regular heart beat.
