No. I am a Catholic and us catholics celebrate it as you know to enjoy ourselfs before Lent. But now a whole lot of people get drunk and kill each other but that's in New Orleans. Sane people go to parades and eat king cake. And I am pretty sure not everyone at the parades are Catholic. The whole town is there practically.

No, actually Mardi Gras originated somewhere in Europe. The first American "Mardi Gras" WAS in Louisiana:" the first American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when the French explorers Iberville and Bienville landed in what is now Louisiana, just south of the holiday's future epicenter: New Orleans. They held a small celebration and dubbed the spot Point du Mardi Gras." The first recorded American Mardi Gras PARADE was in Mobile, AL in 1703. Mardi gras follower?

Mardi Gras when translated from French means "fat Tuesday". It is celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesdays i.e. the day before Lent begins. Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday where Christians (usually Catholics) fast or restrain from certain luxury goods example sweets. Most English spoken countries call this feast Pancake Tuesday. I stand to be corrected but I don't think one could 'follow' mardi gras. One can only celebrate it. I hope this has answered your question.
