Certainly not. Microwaves of the mildest of all ways by which we can heat food. They reach deepest into the food and they heat it purely by shaking the molecules, particularly water and fat. You may know that the heat of a food is simply the movement of its molecules, and no other means of heating can heat food so evenly. If you hit food with infrared rays, which is what you get from a hot element or a flame, or by conduction from a hot element or a hotplate or a flame or oven, then the outside of the food gets scorched long before the inside gets heated. A certain amount of gentle scorching gives the food certain tastes which can be desirable, such as the browning of the outside of a joint or toast, but most scorching is undesirable and produces chemicals such as nitrosamines and trans fatty acids, which are distinctly undesirable. To get that kind of effect with a microwave oven you really have to overheat things ridiculously.

Because of the evenness with which microwaves heat food, they are absolutely marvellous for preparing things that otherwise scorch easily; for example with a little good sense you can produce the most heavenly custard with out a lump. Some people do not like custard skin; I love it. Cooking custard in a microwave does tend to produce a good thick skin, but if your cat or dog likes skin and you don't, no problem!

And because microwaves do not leave scorched bits sticking to the pot, washing up is easier.

Properly used, microwaves are exceptionally gentle with the nutrients in the food. Infrared, ultraviolet, and even visible light breaks down many of the vitamins and other valuable substances in food such as fresh vegetables. Microwaves do not. Microwaves do not remain in the food; switch off the oven and a microwaves have gone before you even hear the click. People who confuse microwaves with ionising radiation such as one gets from radioactivity have not the faintest idea what they are talking about; microwaves are as near as you can get to the opposite of ionising radiation.

It is very hard to do anything with microwaves that will do harm as long as you do nothing really, really stupid. For example if you spill microwaved soup on yourself, it will burn you exactly as badly as equally hot soup from the top of the stove.

The short answer to the question is no! And in case anyone says don't listen to that guy, he is in the pay of the microwave mafia, forget it; at no time in my life have I had any connection, good bad or indifferent, with any company that makes microwaves. I have however done my homework, so I understand microwave ovens as well as any routine microwave oven user. Every microwave we ever have owned has been bought for full price and when ever we want a new one, it is a new microwave oven we buy, not anything else. In more than 30 years of routine microwave oven use, not one member of our family has come to any harm. So I think I can claim that I know what I am talking about.

What does the microwave do to food?

if you put food in the microwave it can kill all the nutrients and goodness, so it makes food bad for you, this is because it has like micro waves or something :S i don't know why, but i know it is much healthier to cook your food in the oven because microwaves kill off the nutrients.

Is micro wave cooking bad for you?

Yes, if you eat is all the time. Baked and streamed food is more healthy for you. Microwave cooking in itself isn't bad for you, any more than food cooked in any other way. It all depends on what you cook and how it's prepared. For example, you could microwave a bowl of pasta, which would be perfectly healthy. Or you could microwave a bowl of pasta with heaps of cheese and rich sauce, which wouldn't be so healthy if you ate it often. If you mean are the microwaves which heat the food bad for you, the answer is no.

How does cooking happen in a microwave?

When food is placed inside the microwave oven, the microwave released will 'agitate' the water molecules in the food, which causes heat to be produced, which then cooks the food.

A person doesn't often need to enter a code at a microwave if they want to reheat food. They simply program the microwave for how long they want the food to cook after they place the food inside.

Can you leave plates of food to be eaten later on-top of a microwave if the microwave is used in the mean time will it not keep reheating the food on top of the microwave?

Microwaves should not be leaking from the microwave oven, however leaving food out and not refrigerated can be a health hazard in itself.
