MS course of BITS Pilani is approved by joint committee of AICTE UGC and DEC. Ex-Post-Facto approval in this regard was communicated by DEC on 24-11-09. Approval is signed by Prof Madhulika Srivastava, Director of DEC.

Joint committee of AICTE UGC DEC granted approval to MS software system and all other coures of BITS PILANI (through distance mode) from year 1995 to 2007-08. Ex-Post-Facto approval was granted vide letter no F. No. DEC/BITS/PLNI/RAJ/2009 dated 24-11-2009 signed by Prof Madhulika Srivastava. Msc IT is valid masters degree program. It is equivalent to B.Tech., MCA. Regarding the approval one need to check it with the college that whether or not they have the approval for running the course. If you are taking admission directly in any University campus you need not worry about AICTE, but should check for UGC approval alone. But if you are taking admission in any college affiliated to some university then apart from checking for UGC's approval (University level) you will need to check for the approval of the Course by AICTE (at college level). Well, the faculty in course content is kind of good. Their infrastructures also said to be good. IIPM gives degrees of MS University, an NAAC five star and UGC recognized university. IIPM per se is not a UGC University - but the degrees are all UGC recognized as IIPM itself doesn't give the degrees but MS University gives the same. Their placements are pretty good. If you read news reports, they've created a benchmark by placing around 15000 students in the last 4-5 years. The average salary is around 4.5 lakhs per annum. The highest last year went up to 32 lakhs too. But that's an extreme figure. You should look at the average salary for reference.
