Norethindrone doesn't start your menstrual cycle. Norethindrone is a progesterone medication typically used to delay menstruation - you take it three days before menstruation in order to prevent the progesterone drop that would normally trigger menstruation. Once you stop takine Norethindrone the drop in progesterone triggers bleeding - this normally occurs within 24 hours of stopping the pill. This bleeding may trigger the menstrual cycle if there have been problems with abscent menstruation, but that is not always the case - it depends on why cycles have stopped.
