Diamond is 10 -- the highest rate -- on the Mohs Scale of hardness. Obsidian rates 5 to 5.5 on the same scale.
'Strong' is a different measurement, which is not typically applied to rocks.
Strength will vary from one piece of a substance to another, depending on the structural defects, so you can't really compare one substance to another.
No. Obsidian has a high silica content: diamond is only carbon.
No.
no! of course not! diamond is the strongest material in the world. how do we cut diamond's? The only this strong enough is a diamond blade.
Make lots of buckets, take lava, and put it down and pour water, then mine with a diamond pickaxe. If you don't have the diamond pick, and you know what you want, put lava exactly there you want the obsidian, surround it by any material on all four sides, just for safety and pour water on it. you don't have to put all the lava in one go, and obsidian can block lava. I recommend not to mine obsidian where you found the lava in the first place, since water can't flow through obsidian and there can easily be lava below the obsidian to take the obsidian when you mine it.
any element will be stronger than diamond because an element is a single atom. deformation of an atom will take much more force than demolishing a diamond. Perhaps the right question would be: which compound is 51 % stronger than diamond? The answer to this question might be Lonsdaleite, practical proof still has to be obtained because all tested crystals were impure, only a simulation has been made so far of a pure sample (calculated at 58% harder).
Diamond is the hardest natural mineral known.
No, diamond is the hardest known mineral.
Yes. Actually... a diamond is NOT 'stronger' than steel. A diamond is 'harder' than steel, but it is not stronger.
No, diamond is stronger than emerald. Rank of hardness Emerald: 8 Diamond: 10
The only thing stronger than diamond is laser, only laser and diamond can cut itself.
No. Obsidian has a high silica content: diamond is only carbon.
No. Obsidian is natural glass, mostly silica. Obsidian is of volcanic origin.
Diamond is the hardest substance known to man, so it can break most materials. Obsidian is a type of volcanic glass that is very sharp and brittle. Diamond can break obsidian.
No, diamond is MUCH harder.
no
No.
both have the same consistancy but if you look at the cenebral cortex the diamond is stronger but if you look at the color gold is stronger Diamond is the hardest element on earth.
