In the past, people decorated after Thanksgiving. But now, there is no set date that is "too late". Some people decorate house and tree early, but other people set up and decorate their trees on Christmas Eve. It's really more of a personal preference and your schedule. If you have young children, decorate early and do the tree 1 to 2 weeks before Dec. 25th and leave it up until at least Jan 6th.
